Gravatar is short for ‘globally recognised avatar’!… An Avatar or Gravatar is an icon, image or representation, of you in a shared virtual reality, such as a forum, chat, website, or any other form of online community.
Gravatar.com is the Globally Recognized Avatar System. If you sign up on their website you can upload an icon to their servers, with your name and email address. Then when you login or leave a comment on this website or any blog or forum that supports Gravatar, the website checks to see if you’re signed up, if you are, then the website will bring your personalised icon/image here!
You now have a recognisable personalised icon everywhere you visit, Globally!
